 Magical Magnets & Phyiscs | Hello, and welcome to this first entry. Here I was to share my ideas of somewhat non-traditional physics.
Magnets. Been around since the beginning of time. The best magic tricks use magnets who themselves even in today's world seem magical in ways. Magnetic behavior of attraction and repulsion is very well documented and measured. They have very exact formulas which is not a surprise as they are used in practically every field from lo-tech to hi-tech.
However, what is magnetism? Why does it happen? This is in my opinion not discovered yet. It should be an answer as simple as what is going on, after all, we are talking about two behaviors opposites attract, likes repel. The explanation must be simple enough that people with no background in physics should understand it. No quantum's, no string theory, or other new age physics.
In philosophy, it is said that emptiness (vacuum) does not exist. Logically it seems correct. The concept of nothingness can not coexist with somethingness. Matter is something in motion, in theory at 0 degrees Kelvin the minimum degree possible matter stops moving, I do not know if electrons stop spinning actually. But on one hand we have matters which like to move and on the other hand we have nothingness. Logic will dictate that the moving electrons molecules etc. will eventually fill the nothingness and making it somethingness.
A philosopher said if you take everything inside a box out, the walls would crash into each other. When we take the air out of container this happens. Although this happens because of the air pressure outside the box becoming more than the inside it can be taken as a notice that nature doesn't like vacuum or emptiness.
Magnets that attract each other is an interesting speech. We know that when we suck the air out of a soda box its not the walls that attract each other but that the air outside pushes the walls towards each other.
To jump of topic physics speaks of a concept "action at a distance" or gravity. It is supposed that earth pulls the moon towards it but there is no string between them. Now this is again an interesting phenomenon modern of physics. To me this and a ghost story where spirits who have no mass or substance makes plates and tables fly are similar. How can two objects that have no physical connection affect each other?
In the soda can example the same behavior is observed but this time we can measure the air pressure so we don't say the walls are pulling each other.
In magnetic attraction we must leave asides all strange theories and first just think if two objects try to reach other they must be pushed. Something must be pushing like the air pressure that pushes the walls of the soda can. Like poles of two magnets repel each other, again if we were to blow air into a soda can the walls would try to move apart from each other.
Now I don't have an explanation to what this force or substance that show itself in magnets is but I feel that there is something is far better than to come up with a almost magical explanation of "action at a distance" and theories of emptiness. Maxwell said that nature is a reflection of our minds, or maybe it was the other way around :)
